Owner Biography: Jeffery O. Grady, ESEP

Jeff Grady is the President of JOG System Engineering, a system engineering consulting firm focused on the assessment of a company’s current capability coupled with process improvements and education initiatives leading to planned improvements. Over the past seventeen years Jeff has provided training and consulting services for companies that produce a broad range of products for a wide range of customers. Products have included manned and unmanned aircraft, missiles, farm equipment, medical equipment, railroad, construction equipment, radio, radar, ship, nuclear, automotive, and battlefield management systems. These firms have included DoD contractors, commercial firms, and government agencies.

Jeff retired from General Dynamics Space Systems Division as the Manager of System Development where his department accomplished requirements analysis, specification development, integration, verification, and management support work on space transport and energy system programs. Other experience, over a period of 30 years in industry, included: system engineer with GD Convair on cruise missiles; system engineer and field engineer for Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical Company on unmanned high-low, day-night, air-ground-ship launched, jet and rocket powered photo reconnaissance, SIGINT, electronic warfare, strike, and target aircraft; and customer training instructor for Librascope on MK-111 and 114 surface ship installed and MK-113 submarine installed underwater fire control computing systems. Served in the US Marines in the aviation communications field. Pictures of some of these systems that Jeff worked on while an aerospace company employee are pictured in Figures 1-3 and 1-4.

Author of nine books in the systems engineering field. His most recent work includes System Requirements Analysis, Elsevier Academic Press, 2006; System Verification, Elsevier Academic Press, 2007; System Management - Planning, Enterprise Identity and Deployment, CRC Press, 2010; and System Synthesis - Product and Process Design, CRC Press, 2010. His prior work includes System Requirements Analysis, McGraw-Hill, 1993; System Integration, CRC Press, 1994; System Engineering Planning and Enterprise Identity, CRC Press, 1994; System Validation and Verification, CRC Press, 1997; and System Engineering Deployment, CRC Press, 1999. He has also had many technical papers published in engineering society publications.

He has lectured in system engineering at or for University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Riverside, and Irvine; University of Alabama in Huntsville; Indiana-Purdue in Fort Wayne; Old Dominion University; and Long Beach State. Jeff is a graduate of San Diego State University with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and he holds a Master of Science in System Management from the University of Southern California (USC). He also has a certificate in information systems from USC and certificate in systems engineering from UCSD.

Jeff is a charter member, past Secretary, and founding editor of the Journal of the International Council On Systems Engineering (INCOSE). In 2001 Jeff was honored by INCOSE with the Fellow award, cited for “industrial education in the systems engineering field and for establishing the role of INCOSE as a teaching organization.” and in 2002 with the Founder’s award, cited for “his seminal role in founding NCOSE, his service as its Secretary, his leadership in inaugurating and editing the Systems Engineering Journal, and his major contributions to systems engineering education.” He has also been recognized by INCOSE as an expert system engineering professional (ESEP).
